The science of NEAT™: reinventing the genomic testing process

NEAT lowers the cost and simplifies the genetic testing process by eliminating the need for sample purification and complicated enzymatic amplification procedures. It does this by replacing the traditional amplification procedures with a highly specific chemical reaction that is coded into proprietary DNA-based probe sets. The base technology for this reaction was originally developed at Stanford and has been exclusively licensed by DxTerity.

The NEAT Process

DxTerity has developed refinements that dramatically increase the sensitivity, specificity, and robustness of the NEAT process to comply with, or exceed, global testing standards. In addition to providing test confidence and quality, NEAT reagents can be stored dry for extended periods of time at room temperature. Today, NEAT reagents are successfully manufactured at scale by an FDA-compliant manufacturing partner.

In conjunction with world-leading genomic researchers, NEAT has been used to multiplex the measurement of over of 100 genes, including direct analysis from “dirty” samples such as whole blood. DxTerity is now commercializing the power of NEAT on a broader scale.

Enabling complex genetic testing at the point of medical care

A major challenge of genetic test development has always been how to quickly and cost-effectively deliver critical information to the medical provider at the point of care, thus allowing physicians to make informed decisions regarding the best course of treatment. By enabling complex genetic tests to be run faster and simpler, DxTerity meets this challenge.

The NEAT process accomplishes this by reducing the number of steps required to perform a complex genetic test from 16 down to 4. Furthermore, these 4 steps have been automated in a disposable plastic cartridge, reducing the total process down to 1 easy step.

As a result, NEAT allows a process that usually takes days, an expensive technology, and a highly trained staff to be conducted in an hour by a technician at the hospital or doctor’s office with walk-away convenience and reliability.

By reducing the number of steps in complex genetic testing, NEAT enables the pathway to routine clinical use.

Functional benefits of NEAT-enabled genetic testing

The table below illustrates how NEAT-enabled genetic testing on the DxTerity platform represents a fundamental change in healthcare provider and patient access to multiplex gene signatures. With DxTerity instruments running the NEAT-enabled platform, doctors can now have information that would have cost thousands of dollars, required weeks to collect, and taken countless resources to compile all in about one hour—literally while the patient is waiting.
