Interferon Type-1 Test FAQs
What is IFN-1?
Type I Interferon (IFN-1) activity is central to how your body defends itself against viruses and pathogens, however persistent over activity has been shown to play a central role in Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) disease development and progression. It is estimated that more than 50% of SLE patients with moderate to severe disease over express IFN-1, and this over expression has been linked to increased disease severity. DxTerity's IFN-1 Test has been shown to be a key prognostic marker for SLE patients developing lupus nephritis. The IFN-1 immune pathway is also a common therapeutic target and the DxTerity IFN-1 Test is being used for therapeutic clinical trial enrollment and monitoring.
I ordered my test. Now what?
Great! You should get an email confirming your order has been received. If you don’t, please contact us. You’ll get another email when your kit has shipped. Kits are shipped via USPS and can take 5-10 business days to receive.
Once you receive your kit, you’ll need to log into your DxTerity account to register your kit to activate it. Without registration our lab cannot process your kit.
What is the DxTerity® kit?
Our easy-to-use DxTerity kit is designed for safe fingerstick blood collection to collect small amounts of blood for genetic analysis. The DxTerity kit is designed to preserve genetic material at room temperature for long periods of time, allowing us to ship our kits all around the country using standard US mail. It is not considered for diagnostic testing.
Why do I need to register my kit?
You need to register your kit in order to link it to your DxTerity account and confirm your identity. Registration connects the barcode on your blood sample to your account, so we know your sample belongs to you. Our lab cannot process your sample if it is not registered.
When do I get test results?
Once we receive your completed and registered kit, we’ll process your sample. We’ll send you an email when your results are ready to view. You can log into your DxTerity account to view your results. IFN-1 test results are not considered medical advice and should be used for informational and educational use only.
How can I share this with my doctor?
Your doctor can order the IFN-1 test for you by going to www.dxterity.com. You will need to go to a lab to complete a standard blood draw performed by a phlebotomist if your doctor orders the test. You can also print your results and share them with your doctor. Your doctor is welcome to contact DxTerity if they have any questions about the test.
What is genomics?
Genomics includes the study of how genes interact with each other and with the environment. Genomics looks at both DNA and RNA. Your genomic information can change in response to your disease or from environmental conditions. Genomics can provide information on what is happening in your body right now unlike genetic testing which is a static and does not change over time.
I don’t have lupus. Should I order an IFN-1 test?
We do not recommend ordering the IFN-1 test if you do not have lupus. Because DxTerity’s IFN-1 test provides educational information about an individual’s IFN levels in reference to having lupus the test, results, and scientific references are designed to be informative for lupus patients only.
